Tlaib says she won’t visit Israel after being treated like ‘a criminal’
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) tweeted Friday that she will not go to the West Bank and Israel to visit her grandmother after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government initially forbid her from entering.

Tlaib said Israel’s government had sought to silence her and had treated her as a criminal, and that she had decided she would not visit her grandmother under those circumstances.

Israel approves Tlaib request to visit grandmother in West Bank
Israel’s interior minister Aryeh Deri on Friday announced he would approve a request from U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) to enter Israel to visit her relatives.

The move comes a day after Israel had announced it would deny entry to Tlaib and fellow congresswoman Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) in a scheduled trip, citing the lawmakers’ past criticism of the country.

Thursday saw the Supreme Court of Gibraltar ordering the release of an Iranian oil tanker which had been seized by that territory’s  police force, with assistance from British Royal Marines, as it attempted to pass through the strategic waterway because of suspicions that Iran was attempting to send oil to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in violation of US and EU sanctions. The order to release the Iranian tanker was the latest move in a geostrategic chess match between Iran and the US, which also involves several other global powers including Israel.

The Israeli decision to ban US Representatives Tlaib and Omar on the basis of their support for BDS has elicited a firestorm of comments from Israel’s detractors and supporters.
