Thought Of The Day, “Still Small Voice”, Men’s Daily Devotion

Thought of the day:

“Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.” Reference I Kings 19:11-12 NKJV

Elijah had been complaining to The Lord that he was the only one speaking for Him. He had just gotten done proving that God was The One True God and had the false prophets killed. He was running from Jezebel, who had said she was going to do the same.

When we see him here, God wanted to talk to him to encourage him. It’s interesting that we see these major things happen, but, God was not making Himself known in these events. Instead, we see that Elijah heard a still small voice. Why did he hear it amongst the chaos? Because, he was waiting and listening for The Lord.

Something for us to chew on today, are we waiting and listening for The Lord amongst the chaos? Sometimes in life’s troubles, all we hear is the chaos in front of us. We tend to sink into our troubles and we don’t hear His Voice. These are the times that we need to listen and wait patiently for Him to speak. We may not realize He’s speaking to us already, but, we’re allowing life to drown Him out.

When’s the last time you waited to hear Him? When’s the last time you cleared everything from your life to truly spend time with Him? Not just a quick 5 minutes or so, but really just spent time with Him? How much more of an impact would we make if we spent the time, like those in the past, just focused on Him despite the chaos?

Today, take time to listen. Let it be a dedicated time with no phones, radios, gadgets or anything that will distract you. Just you, Him, and your Bible and see what you hear from Him.

If we are to please God, we need to allow The Holy Spirit to set us apart. We need to pursue a sinless life. We are to seek Righteousness. How do we do it? Through prayer, study, fellowship, being willing to be corrected/accountability, discipleship, and service.
It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it. We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already.
If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know. Maybe today you are struggling with something. Maybe you may have found yourself not as close to The Lord as you thought. We would like to help you in this through prayer and guidance.
