Teams Experience Unity Beyond the Game at Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camps

FCA Camps Equip Teams and Leaders with Spiritual Principles Through Competition While Providing Impact That Lasts a Lifetime

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—It’s an old adage, but rings true—there’s no “I” in team.

Few teams will succeed without unity, and athletes of all ages are learning how better to come together as teams—both in their sport and in Christ—at Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ (FCA, www.fca.orgTeam Camps across the country and around the world this summer.

Tens of thousands of coaches, athletes and teams are prepping for their potentially life-changing time at more than 700 FCA Camps, as they focus on the theme of “Let’s Go,” based on the Bible verse from Matthew 28:18-20, in which Jesus says, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Meant to be said with emphasis, “Let’s Go” is not only the rally cry for many athletes, coaches and teams, but it also should be the goal of Christians when they consider Christ’s call to the Great Commission.

“Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camps provide a unique and remarkable opportunity for teams to truly unite in sport and more importantly unite in fellowship with one another to honor and glorify their savior, Jesus Christ,” said FCA President and CEO Shane Williamson. “What a blessing to witness tens of  thousands of FCA Camp participants who will not only strengthen their athletic skills this summer, but most importantly, strengthen their relationship with Jesus while making lifelong Christian friends.”

Williamson knows how impactful FCA Camps can be for both coaches and athletes. He has served as a coach and as an FCA staff member for nearly a quarter-century before taking the helm as president in 2017.

“As a coach, parent, player or fan, there are few in the world who are not directly impacted by sports,” he said. “The influence of the coach—other than parents—is the greatest adult figure of inspiration in millions of athletes’ lives daily. FCA’s ministry strategy of ‘To and Through the Coach’ is a global opportunity that works in every culture and country.”

Team Camps equip teams with spiritual principles through competition and are designed to impact coaches and athletes for Christ through team competition. Coaches enroll their players to attend this Camp as a team. Team Camps are a wonderful outreach opportunity, and coaches benefit greatly by evaluating their team’s talent. Team Camps serve the coaches by providing an incredible Camp experience for their players while building team unity.

Likewise, Leadership Camps also build unity among young leaders and train athletes to be spiritual leaders in their personal lives, on their teams and on their campuses. These Camps are geared toward student-athletes, FCA Huddle Coaches and volunteers who serve as leaders. The Camps focus on teaching practical skills for Christian growth, developing as an effective leader and preparing for FCA Huddle ministry.

Year after year, Camp participants report back to FCA about how Camps changed their outlook on life, faith and sports.

  • “I love FCA Team Camp! It is an incredible time to pour into athletes and coaches that work together throughout the year. It gives FCA an opportunity to reach the whole team—coaches and athletes, create a team bond, establish Jesus Christ as the center and carry that out throughout the school year.”
  • “I love Jesus Christ with all of my heart and I can’t explain or put into words how drastically FCA Leadership Camp has changed my life and the way I walk with Christ!”
  • “We went into FCA Camp calling ourselves a team, but we found out we really weren’t. The practices and time with our coaches and teammates helped us have more faith in each other and grow closer as a team.”

Last summer, more than 88,000 campers participated in 771 FCA Camps in 43 states and 50 countries. FCA takes the best attributes of an athletic-focused camp and a spiritual-focused camp and combines them into an athletic/spiritual experience like none other. FCA Camps remove athletes and coaches from the routine of their sport, friends, co-workers and community, and place them into an exciting, healthy, athletic environment that allows them to pursue their passion for sport and clearly see and hear Christ’s passion for them.

Team and Leadership Camps are just two types of FCA Camps available to coaches and athletes this summer. FCA’s easy-to-use Camps website allows coaches, athletes, parents and teams to find Camps by sport, date or location.
