The haziness over Albuquerque this morning is mostly due to prescribed burning to the southwest of Albuquerque. Controlled burning in the San Mateo Mountains, not too far from the VLA, is probably contributing to this morning’s haze. Prescribed burning in the Manzanos may also have contributed. Current fine particulate levels do not warrant the issuance of a health alert.
The unusual humidity for the beginning of June makes the smoke even more noticeable than it would otherwise be. The haziness will gradually decrease through the morning hours. The Environmental Health Department will continue to monitor particulate levels and notify the public as needed. |
