The Weather Channel Reports: Wesley will be an intense low-pressure system that could flirt with all-time April low-pressure records in parts of the Plains, according to data compiled by NOAA Weather Prediction Center meteorologist David Roth. That said, it’s not clear this storm will be strong enough to be deemed a “bomb cyclone” since its atmospheric pressure might not meet the meteorological definition for bombogenesis, which is a 24 millibar pressure drop in 24 hours.

From Frank Haley of KDAZ Radio/KCHF TV NEWS in Albuquerque:

New Mexico could be in for a wild ride this week with regard to weather.

Near-record high temperatures, potentially damaging winds, increased fire risk, rain and mountain snow are in the forecast as a Pacific trough moves through New Mexico in the next couple of days.
Extremely dry conditions have increased the fire risk for much of the state today, with the exception of the northern mountains, where significant snow accumulations remain from snowfall last month. Strong crosswinds could aid rapid fire growth.
In addition to the fire risk, much of the state will have near-record high temperatures today.
The high for the Albuquerque area will be around 83 degrees – potentially tying the record high of 83 for the date, set in 1974 – and temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s in the eastern part of the state, with a high temperature of 94 forecast for Roswell. The high will be around 90 for Portales, Clovis and Tucumcari.
High winds will be a concern on Wednesday,  especially south of Albuquerque and Interstate 40, where the strongest winds will occur.    Wind gusts are expected to be within the 40- to 55-mph range for the western half of the state,  Wind gusts could reach 50 to 60 mph in the east tomorrow.
