We have confirmed reports from our field that before and during Easter weekend, 40 Christians in Nigeria died in multiple attacks. Some 5,000 miles from Sri Lanka where 253 lives were lost on Easter Sunday, our brothers and sisters in Africa were also facing mass violence.

Tragically, many of the deaths were children—including 13 boys who were killed taking part in a late-night Easter procession in Gombe State.

We also have an update from our team in Sri Lanka. Open Doors workers are on the ground, talking with and worshiping with Christians as they attempt to recover and mourn.

Our workers have attended many funerals. These bombings rocked the Christian minority in Sri Lanka. We recently heard from one of our team members, Sunil (not his real name), who shared what he’s seeing in the aftermath and how we can pray.

This week, please be on your knees for our brothers and sisters in Nigeria and Sri Lanka whose lives have been forever changed. Our prayers strengthen each other. I’m reminded of a comment a Sri Lankan believer left on our Facebook page yesterday:

“We are living in constant fear, but it is really soothing and powerful for us to see how many people have joined hands in sharing our burden through prayers. Blessings to you all.”
