Matthew 16:24-26 (NKJV): Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
philautia: self love (philos + auto + -ia) – love for one’s own self. (As found on Wikipedia.com)
Jesus is telling us here that this type of love is not what we are to look for. It can lead to not only being selfish, but, it can become unhealthy.
Why? Because, if we focus on this type of love, then we become obsessed in trying to fill an empty void that we will never be able to fill. In fact, the pursuit of filling this void, will only lead to it becoming even more empty.
The things of this world will become obsolete. They will not go with us into eternity. In fact, when we die, someone else will take them.
Why pursue things that won’t make a difference to us in Heaven? Instead, we need to stop focusing on trying to please ourselves and start pleasing God. The best way to do it? By helping others to know Him. By helping others through their difficulties. We will gain more to The Kingdom when we focus on helping them to see Him.
It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it.
We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already. If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know.
Maybe today you are struggling with something. Maybe you may have found yourself not as close to The Lord as you thought. We would like to help you in this through prayer and guidance.
