Matthew 6:7-8 (NKJV): And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

As Jesus gets ready to teach us a model prayer, He gives warning about praying in vain. What is He talking about? He is saying that we need to be careful not to ask for things selfishly. He is saying that we should not ask for things that God has already given us an answer on. In other words, we should not be like a whiney kid whose parents already said not to something and they continuously come and ask, even though they already know the answer.

Another thing that He is referring to is that we should not pray like those in the occults or other religions. People who pray in these other areas will do things in repetition. They are the ones who would sit with their legs crossed, hands raised repeating “om”. He is warning that if we do something like this, it will bring on unwanted spirits of sorts. This is something that will bring them on.

He is also referring to that we should not pray just to pray, like many in The Body seems to do. They feel that at certain times, they have to recite certain prayers, because that is what they were taught. These types of prayers have no meaning. They are the type people do out of obligation.

Jesus is really telling us that when we pray, it should come from our heart. We need to talk to God with what ever is on our heart that is troubling us or even bringing us joy. The flip side is that while we are praying, we should be listening too. Prayer is a conversation with God, not a one sided request to Him.

How is your prayer life? Are you still praying without feeling? Are you struggling to pray? A good way to start is to use the Psalms as a way to help you pray. If you do this, you should personalize them so it helps you to pray for the things you have need to pray for.

Also, remember that prayer is about us learning to become more focused on what God wants us to be. It’s not about us changing God’s Mind but about Him changing ours.

We will continue  be looking at the Sermon on The Mount. Although,  we need Jesus to bring us back into A Relationship with God The Father, The Sermon on The Mount deals with Heart Issues which is what we should look at when learning to have that Relationship with God.
If we are to please God, we need to allow The Holy Spirit to set us apart. We need to pursue a sinless life. We are to seek Righteousness. How do we do it? Through prayer, study, fellowship, being willing to be corrected/accountability, discipleship, and service.

It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it.

We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already. If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know.

Maybe today you are struggling with something. Maybe you may have found yourself not as close to The Lord as you thought. We would like to help you in this through prayer and guidance.
