Above the Chaos

Pondering many recent events, I can’t help but compare them to the events that took place over 2000 years ago….
When King Herod heard from the wisemen about the birth of Jesus Christ, King of the Jews, (Matthew 2: 3 ) “he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.”
The whole town was troubled, so Herod began a chaotic campaign to find out where this child was born….in order to destroy him. The wisemen were even brought before him for questioning and told he wanted this information so that he too could worship the child.
However, in spite of the king’s efforts to find Him first, Jesus was visited by the wise men. Later, God told Joseph to move his family to Egypt. When the wisemen didn’t report back to him, the King put out a call for all the children under the age of two, in and around Bethlehem, to be killed; hopefully insuring that Jesus be among them. Jesus and His family remained in Egypt until the death of Herod and then, at God’s direction, moved to the city of Nazareth.
After Jesus began His ministry, there was much chaos among the religious leaders, the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Neither of the groups believed that Jesus was the Son of God and they, along with the Roman government, tried constantly to find fault with His teachings and have Him put to death. But the people who had been in darkness for so long were drawn to the light of the truth Jesus taught and followed Him daily.
While those in authority argued among themselves and used every way they knew to trick Him into proving He was not the Son of God, Jesus’ influence among the people grew. After His death and with the appearance of the Holy Spirit the faith of His people increased with each generation…. and is still growing today in spite of the efforts of many, especially by those within our government, to stop it. The Holy Spirit which imparts to us the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is as alive and well today as when sent by Jesus Himself to be our Great Comforter.
Today, as it was in the days of Jesus, authorities in our society try to tell us there is no place for Jesus and His teachings…. as so many are offended by such Christian beliefs. Yet, I look at the events taking place and see the hand of God at work in every situation. God’s people prayed for divine intervention and leadership for our nation and I believe those prayers were answered.
Our President and Vice President right now are both professing believers who have encouraged prayer and often ask for God’s help in making decisions that will benefit all the people. In spite of efforts by those offended by such actions, laws have been passed and court decisions made that protect our religious freedoms . I know without a doubt that as long as we acknowledge Him and keep His laws first and foremost, all will go well for America.
The chaos and confusion of many of our so-called representatives from one side of the political arena were brought to light just this past week, when they tried to interrupt the Senate proceedings to elect Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The disrespect, and rudeness shown by these people was unprecedented…. unheard of before the 2018 elections. When the people prayed and Donald Trump became President it was due to the prayers of so many who saw the need for change in our country and decided to seek help from the highest power there is: God.
As we have seen the chaos and bias increase we have also seen many of the changes we asked for taking place. While there are those who work day and night trying to find a means by which to bring our President down, God’s people continue to raise him up in prayer to the One from whom our only true help comes. While many try to portray to us a White House in disarray and confusion, I see a White House with great direction and purpose for our country to succeed.
Just as God has done from the beginning, as long as we call on His name and turn from our wicked ways (repent), He will continue to bless and help America to rise above the chaos and become once again one nation under the hand of one loving God who wants only the best for those who choose to follow Him. Let us not be distracted by the events taking place nor let us put politics above the real purpose for which God sent His Son….not to condemn the world, but that the world, through Him, might be saved. John 3: 17
