Life With Isaac-Cherokee

Genesis 21:6 And Sarah said, “God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.” (NASB)

In Isaac’s six year old world, everything is all about Daniel Boone, Indians, the wild frontier and all the weaponry and accessories that go along with it.

In my attempt to nurture his imagination and creativity I have found myself hand stitching, hot gluing, painting and so on into the late hours of the night.

I have crafted out: quivers, an Indian headdress, hunting bags, sheaths, trail pouches, arrows, shields, tomahawks, slingshots and a long list of other things.

The most recent ‘project’ I was commissioned to create was a bullwhip. After a little research, I discovered one could make a realistic looking bullwhip from a 1″ dowel rod and some brown colored duct tape.

So once again, I donned my craft cap and set out to fulfill my motherly duty. As I was braiding three twelve-foot strips of duct tape, Isaac sat patiently nearby observing. (It has been my experience that whenever I am in the beginning stages of creating one of his requested items, he cannot keep from making a comment expressing his doubt of my abilities to create the doodad he has placed an order for. And this time was no different.)

“I didn’t think a mom could make a bullwhip. Moms don’t know much about bullwhips,” chimed Isaac.

“Well, it’s not just any mom who can make a bullwhip, only a special mom can make one,” I replied with a wink.

Once the finished product was in his hands and it passed inspection for realistic appearance, flexibility and snap factor, I was once again elevated to the position of ‘The Best Mom I Could Ever Ask For’.

So for this day, I wear my title with honor knowing that tomorrow, I will join the ranks of being just a plain old mom once again.

So if you see Isaac in town toting a braided whip in his hunting bag, I will welcome the compliments just to hear him say, “My Mom made it.”
