It’s A Heart Issue, Part 1, Matthew 5:21

Matthew 5:21 (NKJV):  You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’

Notice that Jesus starts this part of His Discourse, talking about murder. When you take a look at what would cause someone to murder, you should realize that it is something within their heart that would lead them to commit such an act. There has to be some sort of darkness inside that would lead them to go down a path to murder someone.

No one who is a follower of Jesus, would truly want to murder someone. In fact, they would want to try to shine light in a person’s life. They would want to introduce “True Life”. That does not seem like someone who would want to harm a person.

When we take a look at the Commandments, we should see that they speak of Relationship. The first four refer to having a Relationship with God first. This is where we learn to Love like He does. When we have a Relationship with Him, then we are able to have one with others, which, is what the other 6 deal with.

The Law is something that not only helps us to understand that we need to look to God for direction, but it also establishes Love for Him and then for others. This next discourse shows more of how Jesus’ Statement about The Law not being abolished but fulfilled. Again, it was and will be Fulfilled through His Love for us and by His Sacrifice.
