Matthew 5:7 (NKJV): Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
In order to be merciful, it’s important to understand what mercy really means. The definition at freedictionary.com for mercy is as follows:
1. Compassionate treatment, especially of those under one’s power; clemency.
2. A disposition to be kind and forgiving: a heart full of mercy.
3. Something for which to be thankful; a blessing: It was a mercy that no one was hurt.
4. Alleviation of distress; relief: Taking in the refugees was an act of mercy.
So, we see that it means to be compassionate. It means that we do not be heavy handed towards someone because they work for or serve us. It means that we show love towards them. Jesus never Lorded over The Disciples His position. In fact, it would seem that He served them and others to show what a True Leader is to be.
We also see that it means that we are forgiving. It seems that Our Lord instructed us to forgive others. He told us that if we don’t forgive, neither will the Father forgive us, Matthew 6:15. It seems that a lot of our Faith is based on forgiveness.
We see that it means to be thankful as well. Are you thankful for what you have/ Have you thanked God for His provisions and generosity to you today? We should give Him Thanks daily.
We also see that it helps alleviate distress. It means that we show someone kindness when they are downtrodden. It means that we help someone in their time of need, not because we feel obligated or that we have to, but because we care for them. It is through this kindness that we can lead someone to The Lord.
So, if we look at what it means to be merciful, then, when we show that to others, then we will receive that mercy from The Lord as well. Does this mean we show mercy just to receive mercy? Not necessarily. However, it does bring Joy to Our Lord when we do. He then in turn will do the same for us.

Let’s be the example Our Lord wants us to be today.

We will continue be looking at the Sermon on The Mount, continuing with The Beatitudes. Although, we need Jesus to bring us back into A Relationship with God The Father, The Sermon on The Mount deals with Heart Issues which is what we should look at when learning to have that Relationship with God.
If we are to please God, we need to allow The Holy Spirit to set us apart. We need to pursue a sinless life. We are to seek Righteousness. How do we do it? Through prayer, study, fellowship, being willing to be corrected/accountability, discipleship, and service.
It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it.
We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already. If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know.
