My Flag

Flag Day is the annual celebration of the American flag, the Stars and Stripes, adopted on June 14, 1777 by the First Flag Resolution of the Continental Congress.  Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Calvin Coolidge issued proclamations requesting that June 14 become National Flag Day.  However, the official national observance of Flag Day began only after President Harry Truman signed it into law in 1949.

Not long after Flag Day became official as a law, another law passed requiring the state superintendent of public schools to make sure schools observed patriotic holidays like Memorial Day, Flag Day, Lincoln’s birthday and Washington’s Birthday.

The flag of the United States of America is the most beautiful flag ever conceived and designed.   The colors are perfection for this nation.   White signifies purity and innocence.   Red, hardiness and valor, and Blue… signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice.  The design has deep significance.  When displayed among all other national flags of the world, it stands alone in beauty and power.  Surely all eyes are drawn toward ‘Ole Glory’.    It stands for freedom, when most others do not.   It stands for hope, when others give no hope.   After all, it is the American flag, which from its beginning has flown “under God.”  This flag birthed from the blood stained battlefields where men fought for freedom from tyranny.

Let it be known, I understand most Americans, and perhaps more of our young who openly protest the best of the best the world has to offer, have not been in nations which suppress and oppress their citizens, as I have been blessed to observe.    I also understand that the same have not served in war zones, nor tasted the blood of a brother combatant in an attempt to offer aid.   However, the same have enjoyed the protection those fighting under the flag have bought with a price.  They live in the freedoms we enjoy at the selfless service of our neighbors.

I recently read a report stating that here in America the rate of dying for war surviving veterans are approximately 1000 per day.   If this were true, their stories are rapidly diminishing from our midst.

The Red, White, and Blue is my flag.   I still honor, serve and defend her.   However, the LORD Jesus Christ is my Banner.  I honor, serve and defend Him above all.   Only one who does not understand the cost of each would question the defense.   May God bless America even more!

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
