Why Be Anxious? Psalm 119:81-88

Psalm 119:81-88 (NKJV): My soul faints for Your salvation, But I hope in Your word. 82 My eyes fail from searching Your word, Saying, “When will You comfort me?” 83 For I have become like a wineskin in smoke, Yet I do not forget Your statutes. 84 How many are the days of Your servant? When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me? 85 The proud have dug pits for me, Which is not according to Your law. 86 All Your commandments are faithful; They persecute me wrongfully; Help me! 87 They almost made an end of me on earth, But I did not forsake Your precepts. 88 Revive me according to Your lovingkindness,
So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.

The Psalmist seems to be getting anxious here. He is searching for an answer to a question. Probably, looking for assurance God is still there. It could be a quiet moment when God has not spoken to him. It could be one of those moments that God wanted him to reflect.

Some would say, “If you don’t ‘feel or hear God”, who moved?” Let’s turn that question around though, do we always have to feel or hear  God? Do you always feel or hear your friends or family to know they are there? Are they with you 24/7 just so you know they are with you? This is not to say that God is not always there, this is to say that what these people are referring to is what is known as an experiential situation. Sometimes He will be silent so that we remember that it is He who is working it out.

Hebrews 11:1-3 (NKJV): Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

We will find ourselves like the Psalmist, where we will seem to wonder if God really loves us. We may have some of those “old tapes”, playing about how we are not worth it, that He doesn’t really want us. We may hear from some about how He only will love you if… (Fill in the blank).

Fact is, we are not worthy but He still loves us. He loves us so much that He created the way for us to be redeemed to Him. Because we forget how much He loves us is another good reason to be reading and studying daily. When we do, we are reminded how much He did for us because of His love.

Why should we take comfort? Because with Him in our lives, we have no reason to be afraid.

We will continue to be looking at Psalm 119 in sections. Although,  we need Jesus to bring us back into A Relationship with God The Father, this Psalm lays a foundation of how we should be walking in our Faith walks.

If we are to please God, we need to allow The Holy Spirit to set us apart. We need to pursue a sinless life. We are to seek Righteousness. How do we do it? Through prayer, study, fellowship, being willing to be corrected/accountability, discipleship, and service.

It starts with Our Relationship with Jesus. If you don’t have a Relationship with Him or you need to rekindle that Relationship, do it now. Call out to Him and seek his Love and Forgiveness. It really is as hard or easy as you make it.

We should look to Him daily to seek a relationship with Him. I want to encourage you to seek Him today, if you haven’t already. If you need help, have questions or need direction in this regard, please, feel free to let me know.
