Heart Transplant, Psalm 119:25-32

Psalm 119:25-32 (NKJV): My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.
²⁶ I have declared my ways, and You answered me; Teach me Your statutes. ²⁷ Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works. ²⁸ My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word. ²⁹ Remove from me the way of lying, And grant me Your law graciously. ³⁰ I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me. ³¹ I cling to Your testimonies; O Lord, do not put me to shame! ³² I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.

Do you know that one of our biggest problems with following The Lord is our hearts? The Psalmist here is recognizing that he needs to cling to The Lord for direction. He talks about his soul melting from heaviness. This could be one of the following things:

1. Depression – This is something that hits home for many of us. When we sink into a depression, it seems that nothing around us matters. We sink into a deep darkness and it seems like our souls are heavy. But there is hope. We do not need to be sunk into depression. Like the Psalmist, we  seek Hope, and we call out to The Lord: Romans 15:13 (NKJV): Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
2. Dread – This could be a sinking feeling that you did something wrong. Maybe you said the wrong thing. Maybe you did the wrong thing. Because of whatever this thing is, you feel like you cannot turn it around. But, like the Psalmist, we see there is Hope when we look to The Lord: 1 John 1:5-10 (NKJV): This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. ⁶ If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. ⁷ But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. ⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
3. Doubt – This is something that often occurs in life. We are trying to help someone. We are working on improving our life. We strive to do better at things we do. Then, because we have no reassurance, we begin to doubt that what we are doing is making any difference. However, like The Psalmist, we learn that we need to stop looking to man for reassurance and receive our Hope from The Lord: James 1:2-8 (NKJV): My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, ³ knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. ⁴ But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. ⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. ⁶ But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. ⁷ For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; ⁸ he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

So, our take away from this portion of Psalm 119 today should be, that we learn to know that it is Jesus, who brings us Hope. This Hope works in every area of our lives.

We will continue to be looking at this Psalm in sections. Although,  we need Jesus to bring us back into A Relationship with God The Father, this Psalm lays a foundation of how we should be walking in our Faith walks.
