OPINION: America’s “Chaos Strategy” in the Middle East

If one looks across the Middle East and South Asia, all of the forces that have led to regional instability have grown worse with time and not better. The so-called “Arab Spring” has done nothing to bring stability to the Arab world. Talk of an Arab-Israeli peace process rings hollow even by the low standards of the past, and Iran, Russia, Turkey, and the Hezbollah all present new challenges and risks of war.

Lt. Colonel John Henry Patterson, an officer in the Imperial British Army and an Evangelical Christian, led the Zion Mule Corps, the first Jewish military unit since the Second Century, as it participated in the Gallipoli Campaign in the early years of the First World War. Later, he would lead Jewish troops in the British campaign to liberate the Levant from the Ottoman Empire. His memoirs of these campaigns give fascinating insights into historical events which continue to shape the modern State of Israel.

Israel faces threats on all fronts . While all men are entirely responsible for their actions it is true that behind these threats are dark principalities of destruction and deception. Paul wrote that we are to recognize this and thus oppose these principalities through the struggle of prayer.
