Netanyahu Intervenes to End Holy Sepulchre Dispute

The doors of Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre re-opened to visitors Wednesday morning following the personal intervention of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the dispute between traditional churches and the Jerusalem municipality over property taxes and land sales. The leaders of several denominations issued a joint statement thanking God for the development and expressing a willingness to enter into negotiations with the Israeli authorities to find a solution to the impasse.

Holy Sepulchre Closure Causing Israel Diplomatic Damage

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem’s Old City remained closed for a third day on Tuesday in protest of a plan by the Jerusalem municipality to impose property taxes on church-owned businesses in the city. Pictures of tourists weeping outside the closed doors, with captions blaming Israel for the situation, were being widely distributed on social media as anti-Israel organizations and governments around the world roundly condemned the Jewish State for what they described as its hostility towards Christians.

Surprising Turn in Legal Case Against Netanyahu

Judge Ronit Poznanski-Katz, who had been overseeing the pretrial hearings in Case 4000, the so-called “Bezeq Affair” was herself hit with a legal issue this week which forced her to recuse herself. Poznanski-Katz and attorney Eran Shaham-Shavit of the Israel Securities Authority are accused of colluding to fix legal proceedings in the case outside the boundaries of courtroom protocol.

Saudi Arabia Wants Same Nuclear Capability as Iran

Reports emerged on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia is demanding of the US that it be allowed to buy technology and develop the know how to build a nuclear power industry, in response to the green light given to Iran’s nuclear enterprise in the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal. Analysts noted that fears over the possible proliferation of such know how and technology, which can be used to advance a nuclear weapons project, was one of the principle objections to the JCPOA.

Israel and the US Sign Cooperative Agreement

The US Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad (CPAHA) and the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs signed a cooperative agreement Monday to assist each other in mobilizing Jewish volunteers to come to Europe and assist efforts to preserve Jewish heritage sites there. “The relationship between the United States and Israel has never been closer, and we are cooperating at every level and in every sphere,” said US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman.

Israeli-Arab Men Arrested for Links to IS

Security forces announced on Monday that they have indicted three Arab-Israeli men from the Galilee village of Um el-Fahm for engaging in a conspiracy to carry out attacks on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on behalf of the Islamic State (IS) terror militia. “The Shin Bet considers Israelis who support the Islamic State terrorist organization as a serious threat, especially those who maintain contacts with the organization’s activists and operate under the auspices of the organization in the territory of the State of Israel,” the Shin Bet said.
