Reports out of Washington DC indicate that the Administration of US President Donald Trump is looking for new ways to confront an increasingly aggressive Iran. “I would call it a broad strategy for the range of Iranian malign activities: financial materials, support for terror, destabilization in the region, especially Syria and Iraq and Yemen,” said one senior administration official.

Netanyahu Having a Successful Trip to Latin America

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Buenos Aries Argentina on Monday evening and all day Tuesday, his first stop on a four-day tour of the region. “This trip marks a new era in relations between Israel and Latin America,” Netanyahu told reporters on his plane. Shortly after landing, he took part in a ceremony to honor victims of the 1992 bombing of Israel’s embassy and then visited the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA) Jewish Community building which was also hit by terrorists in 1994.

Israel-Africa Summit Postponed

Israel suffered a stinging diplomatic defeat on Monday when it was announced that the first Israel-Africa Summit, scheduled to be held in Togo in October, has been indefinitely postponed due to massive pressure on African governments by the Palestinian Authority and Arab governments. Political/social turmoil in both Israel and Togo were also reportedly taken into consideration by both governments in their decision to postpone the event.

Tourism Numbers Up for 2017

Israel’s Tourism Ministry and the Central Bureau of Statistics published a report Monday showing that incoming visits to the Jewish State are up substantially in 2017 over recent years. The report added that visiting tourists had spent around $3.4 billion in 2017.

Israel Trying to Block PA Moves at the UN

Reports emerged this week that the Palestinian Authority is planning to make an attempt next week to join the UN’s World Tourism Organization, which would among other things grant it further legitimacy despite not being the government of a recognized nation-state. “Israel has taken all diplomatic measures to block the request,” a Foreign Ministry spokesman said. “We are not expecting any negative impact on Israel or its continued activity in the organization – the expected damage will be to the organization itself.”
