LORD, Houston Has a Problem!

Even though we are heart-broken over the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, we are also heart-touched by the responses of so many caring people to rush to the aide of so many.  In times as these, we are reminded that we really are an American family, different yet the same.  Come on America, let’s work and love together for the common good.

 A Psalm of Reassurance

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.   Selah.    There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.  God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.   Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; He lifts His voice, the earth melts.  The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.  Selah.   Come and see the works of the Lord, the desolations He has brought on the earth.  He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; He breaks the bow and shatters the spear, He burns the shields with fire.   ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’   The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.  Selah.”       (Psalm 46)

Heavenly Father, God of mercy, healing, rescue and relief, I humbly come before Your Throne with my heart filled with grief and eyes filled with tears as I look upon the devastation in Texas and Louisiana. . . O my LORD, Houston!

I pray for Your presence to be felt by the hundreds who are grieving, who are injured or have lost family members or friends, who have lost their homes and places of work.

I pray for wisdom, safety and blessing for those who are risking so much to rescue the people who are stranded and homeless and all the many challenges left in the path of the Harvey.

I pray for Your Church, believers from all over coming to help.  May Your people be a witness to Your compassion and care for all who suffer.  May many find strength, hope, love, and even salvation in You because of compassionate Christians.

LORD God, You are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.   For this I give You praise and thanksgiving, asking that You hear my prayer for the victims of Harvey, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
