In The Hands of God

So many terrible things going on in our world today. While Florida suffers the attack of Hurricane Irma, wild fires are destroying lives and property in many states. Texas is trying to recover from Hurricane Harvey, and North Korea is threatening to use a hydrogen bomb. Mexico was hit by an earthquake…. and with all this, many are predicting that the end times are surely upon us.
Spiritual and religious leaders try to define what is happening by telling us God is angry because of our unbelief and continual sin….which may very well be true. Others see it as His way of bringing us together as the family of God, an opportunity to show His love and kindness by helping those in despair. Carnal others call it punishment for our conservative ideas and for electing Donald Trump as our President.
Only God Himself knows why He allows things to happen as they do. Some warn that God has taken His eyes off our country and left us to our own destruction while others tell us not to worry because everything is in His hands.
Being in the hands of God can be most frightening…. unless you know where those hands have been and are familiar with their touch. Those of us who know Him personally should not be too alarmed by the events taking place around us as we can find peace in the knowledge of God’s love and His promise never to leave or forsake us….but to those who refuse to believe and find His words foolish, they are the ones who should tremble.
People call out to God in times of trouble who at other times never give Him a thought. I’m sure the events of the last few days have caused many to look to Him for help and comfort. Many promises are made in fearful times too…. which are forgotten once the storm passes and life gets back to normal.
Let us face the fact: sin is our biggest problem right now. And it is understandable that God would be angry….but why would he punish the faithful along with the sinners? Bad things happen to good people all the time and many lessons are learned and passed on from every event we survive. Sometimes it takes a catastrophe to get us to the place God wants us to be.
1 Cor. 2:11 in the Living Bible tells us: No one can really know what anyone else is thinking or what he is really like, except that person himself. And no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own spirit. 12 And God has actually given us His spirit. 15 … the spiritual man has insight into everything, and this baffles the man of the world, who can’t understand Him at all. 16 How could he? For certainly he has never been one to know the Lord’s thoughts, or to discuss them with Him, or to move the hands of God by prayer.
Therefore, we as Christians have some insight into what God is thinking and how or why He might act as He does. When you know someone well, on a personal basis, you get a pretty good idea how that person might react in any given situation. Through His Holy Spirit we are blessed to receive actual thoughts from God. This is one way He communicates with us. So we cannot discount what these spiritual leaders tell us but we must use discernment in choosing which ones to believe.
Romans 11:33 (KJV) O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgements, and his ways past finding out! 36  For of him, and through him, and to him are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen
When God sent His Son to die for our sins, He sent the best part of Himself….He sent His love. So we can rest assured that anything God allows to happen, His love is in the midst of it….and for us who believe, there is no safer place to be than in the hands of God.
