In 1916, the president of the United States issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday. Title 36 of the United States Code, Subtitle I, Part A, CHAPTER 1, § 110 is the official statute on Flag Day; however, it is at the president’s discretion to officially proclaim the observance. On June 14, 1937, Pennsylvania became the first U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday, beginning in the town of Rennerdale. New York Statutes designate the second Sunday in June as Flag Day, a state holiday.

As I look on this day of honoring our flag I can’t help but think about all of us standing underneath it around our Country. The Lost, the hurting, the confused, the angry, the families, the survivors, the children, the orphaned, the hungry, the homeless, the forgotten and the lists goes on.

When the flag was being carefully stitched together by steady hands with pride, I wonder if they had a glimpse of how life would be in the year 2017 how they would feel inside. The pride in our flag, the honor and love for our country, where in the world has that all gone. Standing proudly with our nation’s flag in your hand on the street in some parts of our country will cause offense or even violence. I am lost for words, as an Air Force Veteran who proudly served our country it saddens me just turning on the news each day and seeing all the slander, hate and selfishness going on. As a Follower of Jesus Christ I see the hurting as well as those who believe that they are entitled to do whatever they please and my hope is that as Followers of Jesus Christ we will all get on our knees and pray for our nation not only on Flag Day but every day from now on.

Heavenly Father we ask for your forgiveness as we have reminded you more and more each day of how the people of Sodom and Gomorrah behaved. I pray today for our Nation that we can once again be one nation under You and stand in faith knowing that you are in control. Heavenly Father Heal Our Land, stir a fire up in us as Believers to pray for our Nation, Regions, States, Cities, Towns and communities. Please give us the eyes of Jesus to see your creation in everyone we come across, no matter who they are. Give us the wisdom we need to show others who you are through our daily actions. Lord finally give us a clean and pure heart to love one another in a way that they will truly get to know you in a greater way. God Bless America, Bless all those who stand up for our Flag and all those who are serving to protect us as well as all those who have died defending Our Nation, Our People, Our Flag in Jesus Name A-Men.
