Israel Reacts to Stabbing of Border Police Officer

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opened the Cabinet meeting Sunday morning by saying that it is imperative for the international community to demand of the Palestinian Authority that it discontinue the practice of paying terrorists and their families a stipend for carrying out attacks on Israelis. The comments came following a weekend in which an Israeli Border Police officer was killed by knife-wielding terrorists in Jerusalem while the PA portrayed the event as the extra-judicial murder of her three attackers by Israeli security forces.

Iran Launches Ballistic Missiles at IS in Syria

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) fired missiles over northern Iraq and targeting  positions of the Islamic State (IS) terror militia in eastern Syria on Sunday as part of Iran’s response to a recent IS-claimed attack which killed 18 people in Teheran last week. An IRGC statement that the missiles killed large numbers of IS personnel and destroyed their equipment could not be independently confirmed.

Israelis Sports Fans Have Much to Cheer About

Israel’s Paralympic rowing team won bronze in the 2,000 meter race of the World Cup event on Saturday in Poznan, Poland, coming in right behind teams from France and Ukraine. The team, which includes wounded IDF veterans, is now looking forward to competing at the world championships in Sarasota Florida in September. In other sports news, a group of NFL Hall of Famers touring Israel this week held an event on Sunday in Jerusalem to meet and greet local fans.

Jordanian King Receives Clerics from Jerusalem

A delegation of officials from Jerusalem’s traditional Christians churches and Moslem clerics met with Jordanian King Abdullah on Sunday, during which the King re-iterated his support for their communities against what was characterized as “Israeli brutality and aggression” and to continue working for the establishment of a Palestinian State with eastern Jerusalem as its political capital. He also promised to continue demanding that Israel cease what he called attempts to “Judaize” Jerusalem. The assembled clerics warmly applauded these remarks.

Hapoel Jerusalem  Wins Basketball Championship

Hapoel Jerusalem’s players, coaches and fans were busy all weekend celebrating the club’s victory over Maccabi Haifa in the BSL championship series last Thursday evening. Several changes to the coaching and playing roster are expected in the coming weeks as fans look forward to next year’s season.
