President Trump fires FBI Director James Comey to ‘mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement’
In a letter from Trump to Comey, the president said, “While I greatly appreciate you informing on three separate occasions that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the DOJ that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau.” The recommendation to fire Comey came from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said in the statement. Spicer said a search for a new permanent FBI director would begin immediately.
