NM Gov. Martinez Orders Flags Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of Cannon Air Force Base Flight Crew

Governor Susana Martinez Calls for Flags to be Flown at Half-Staff in Remembrance of Cannon Air Force Base Flight Crew

Santa Fe, NM — Today, the Clovis and Cannon Air Force Base community gather to remember three U.S. Air Force officers who were killed in the line of duty: Captain Andrew Becker, Captain Kenneth Dalga, and First Lieutenant Frederick Dellecker. Governor Susana Martinez has issued an executive order calling for flags to be at half-staff as the region gathers for a memorial service in their honor.

Further executive orders in memory of Captain Becker, Captain Dalga, and First Lieutenant Dellecker will be issued in the coming days. The full text of today’s executive order is available below:

EXECUTIVE ORDER 2017-005
FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF IN HONOR AND MOURNING OF CANNON AIR FORCE BASE FLIGHT CREW

     WHEREAS, U.S. Air Force Captains Andrew Becker and Kenneth Dalga and First Lieutenant Frederick Dellecker were killed when their aircraft crashed on Tuesday, March 14, 2017;

     WHEREAS, All three officers served with the 318th Special Operations Squadron from Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico;

     WHEREAS, Captain Becker was from Novi, Michigan, and is an alumnus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps program;

     WHEREAS, Throughout his Air Force career, Captain Becker served numerous assignments at home and around the world, including several deployments in support of counterterrorism operations abroad;

     WHEREAS, Captain Becker is survived by his wife Shelly, parents Gary and Stacey, and sister Betsie;

     WHEREAS, Captain Dalga, a native of Goldsboro, North Carolina, graduated from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky and was a combat systems officer;

     WHEREAS, Captain Dalga is survived by his wife Sarah, son Noah, mother Tracey and brother Nolan;

     WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Dellecker was a native of Daytona Beach, Florida and a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado;

     WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Dellecker is survived by his parents William and Karen, and brother William;

     WHEREAS, The loss of these U.S. Air Force officers reminds us all of the dangers those who serve our country in uniform face every day at home and around the world;

     NOW, THEREFORE, I, Susana Martinez, Governor of the State of New Mexico, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of the State of New Mexico, do hereby order that all flags be flown at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. The hearts, thoughts and prayers of the people of New Mexico go out to the families and fellow service members of these U.S. Air Force officers in memory of their service and sacrifice.
