Netanyahu and Trump Hold Historic Summit in Washington

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrapped up a highly successful summit on Wednesday afternoon with US President Donald Trump. “I’ve known the President and I’ve known his family and his team for a long time, and there is no greater supporter of the Jewish people and the Jewish state than President Donald Trump. I think we should put that to rest,” Netanyahu said at a joint press conference at the White House.

BDS Campaign Suffers Several Defeats

The international effort to Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS) Israel suffered several setbacks this week, with another rebuke coming on Wednesday when the University of California signed a memorandum of understanding on increased cooperation with Israel’s National Technological Innovation Authority. The BDS movement has been highly active in the UC system’s social science departments, but President Janet Napolitano said, “Developing groundbreaking technologies that can be put to practical use around the world is central to our mission as a public institution, and we’re delighted to have Israel’s Innovation Authority as a partner in this mutually beneficial endeavor.”

Iran Continues to Threaten Israel Despite JCPOA

Former Foreign Ministry director-general Dore Gold held a seminar at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs think tank on Wednesday in which he said, among other things, that “There is absolutely no indication of one iota of moderation by the Iranian elite in their hostile intentions toward Israel since the conclusion of the Iran nuclear agreement. Iranian policy in this regard is driven by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Those who asserted that the Iran nuclear agreement would lead to a moderation of Iranian attitudes were completely wrong.”

Abbas Says He Remains Committed to Two-State Solution

As Israeli PM Netanyahu and US President Trump were meeting in Washington on Wednesday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas issued a statement saying his administration “affirmed its continuing commitment to the two-state option, international law and legitimacy, which should ensure the end of the Israeli occupation, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, living in peace and security next to the State of Israel on the June 1967 borders.”
