New Sheriff In Town

Once again, Donald Trump proved that there is a new sheriff in town. Last night he fired Acting Attorney General Sally Yates, an Obama loyalist. Yates refused to defend President Trump’s order imposing a temporary immigration moratorium on seven countries infected by radical Islamic terrorism.

President Trump promptly replaced Ms. Yates with Dana Boente, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, who has promised to defend the president’s immigration order. Mr. Boente will run the Justice Department until the Senate confirms Jeff Sessions, which I hope will happen this week.

President Trump did the right thing in firing Yates. Even liberal Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz agrees. “This is holdover heroism,” Dershowitz said of Yates. “It’s so easy to be a heroine when you’re not appointed by this president and when you’re on the other side. She made a serious mistake.”

But here’s a disturbing thought: In many government agencies like the EPA and the State Department, former President Barack Obama has more control over the bureaucracy out of office than President Donald Trump has sitting in the Oval Office. That is intolerable.

Bad Comparison

In his most recent Sunday sermon, the “Reverend” Al Sharpton compared Jesus to the Muslim refugees from Syria, Yemen, Libya, etc. Whatever institution issued “Reverend” Al’s theology degree should demand its return.

In the very narrow sense that Jesus and his parents were refugees, Sharpton has a point. But there is a larger one he seems to miss. Mary, Joseph and Jesus, in addition to being the first family of Christendom, were Jews. You do remember the Jews, Rev. Sharpton? They are hated by large swaths of the Muslim world.

If the Jews of Israel laid down their weapons tomorrow, the Jews of Israel would be dead by the end of the week. Donald Trump is trying to make sure that we are not importing the anti-Semitic, fascist jihadists who are running rampant in the countries covered by his order. Get it, Al?

He’s Back!

George W. Bush waited seven years to critique his successor. Barack Obama barely waited seven days to critique his.

Yesterday afternoon, a spokesman for the former president praised the action over the weekend in defense of “American values.” What was that action? Mini riots at major airports that jeopardized the safety of Americans. He may be out of office, but Obama is still trying to wreck the country.

By the way, did you hear about the refugees fleeing terror that the president sent back to their oppressors? I’m talking about the Cubans who arrived in Miami only to be sent back to the brutal Castro regime as part of Barack Obama’s appeasement of communist Cuba. Where were the mobs and the reporters speaking up for those refugees?

Schumer’s Tears

I noticed that Senator Schumer shed a tear this weekend over inconvenienced Sudanese, Yemenis and Libyans.

I shed a tear this morning too as more information came out about Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens. The Peoria, Illinois, native was killed this week during an attack on an Al-Qaeda stronghold in Yemen. More than a dozen terrorists were killed, including “three senior Al Qaeda leaders.”

Chief Petty Officer Owens was going after the people who President Trump and Vice President Pence are diligently trying to keep out of our country. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family. You can read President Trump’s statement here.

By the way, not that long ago, Sen. Schumer thought an immigration pause “may be necessary.” Yet now that Donald Trump is proposing it, Schumer is denouncing the idea as “mean-spirited and un-American.”

The Empathy Gap

Am I the only one noticing something strange about the reaction of the radical left and progressives in the last 72 hours to the president’s national security order? Its purpose is to ensure that we keep out hidden ISIS soldiers and other jihadis.

It affects seven countries that are significant terrorist breeding grounds, places like Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. The result of the president’s pause in refugees and immigrants from these nations caused slightly more than 100 people to be detained at airports, but they were quickly released after their paperwork was examined.

What was the reaction of the progressive left? Virtual riots at airports. Wailing protestors. A key top congressional leader reduced to tears. Charges of fascism.

Here’s what I find odd about all of this. In recent years, Americans have been brutally murdered by jihadists in San Bernardino, Orlando, at Ohio State University, at the Boston Marathon, at Fort Hood, in Little Rock, Chattanooga and New York City. Around the world, there have been regular massacres and beheadings of Christians, religious minorities and allies of the United States.

In each case, the families of the victims wept and called for tougher action against the Islamic fascists who carried out such atrocities. But the progressive left largely kept quiet, except to warn us not to blame other Muslims.

I don’t recall senators weeping at the news that Americans were murdered in a night club or at a Christmas party. I don’t recall seeing riotous crowds demanding serious action by our government to combat this evil when our soldiers were gunned down at their bases.

How is it that the progressive left feels more outrage for the inconvenienced Yemenis than for the brave men and women at Fort Hood, for the fallen runners in Boston, for the young men and women mowed down in Orlando? How many more Americans must die before the left decides to act against (or even utter the phrase) “radical Islamic terrorism”?

Of Supreme Importance

President Trump is expected to announce his Supreme Court nominee tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET. Insiders generally agree that the choice is between two appellate court judges — Neil Gorsuch and Thomas Hardiman. CNN reports that both men will be in Washington, D.C. tonight. However, sources involved in the process say, “a last minute deviation is well within the realm of possibility.”

We will have a full report and analysis of the president’s nominee in tomorrow’s “End of Day” report.
