He Heard My Cry

Jean Bundas

In my distress I called to the LORD; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears. (II Samuel 22:7 NIV)

I emptied my jewelry box in frustration. Where was my gold bracelet? I searched throughout the house but couldn’t find it. Suddenly, it dawned on me, and I hung my head in despair. I had worn it to Sunday service. Five days had passed since then.

The bracelet was a gift from a special friend. Now it was gone. I picked up the phone and began to call the places I had been the previous Sunday. My disappointment grew. It seemed my bracelet was lost forever.

There was a knock at the front door.

“Hey, guys!” I gave our friends Bill and Tammy a hug and invited them inside to visit with us. It did not take Tammy long to realize something was wrong.

“What’s going on?” she asked, still showing traces of a Texan accent.

I shared with her what had happened. She grabbed my hands and closed her eyes. “Let’s pray!”

She prayed and agreed with me that God would help me find the bracelet.

After sealing the prayer with a firm “Amen,” Tammy began to share a story she had read that week in a Christian magazine. The story was about a lady who had lost a very special ring. The woman had prayed that God would send his angels to return it. She had then read her Bible and gone to sleep.

When she awoke the next morning she prayed again that God would help her find her ring. As she was driving to work, she felt prompted to turn around and return home. Even though she thought it was a little crazy, she was obedient. She entered the house and went to her bedroom. There, on top of her Bible, was her ring.

My faith rose as Tammy finished sharing the story with me. If God could answer the prayer of this woman, I knew He could answer mine too!

The next day, I asked my husband to take me up to the church. I walked into the large sanctuary. It would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I walked to the chair I had sat in on Sunday and looked around.

Nothing.

I walked to the back of the sanctuary and looked around.

Nothing.

I walked across the carpet in front of the pulpit, but still no bracelet.

Again I prayed, remembering the lady in the story. “Please God,” I said out loud, “Help me see where my bracelet is; move it if You have to so I can find it.”

I pivoted and lifted my foot to take my next step. A gold flash in the carpet caught my eye. It looked like a Hershey Kiss wrapper, all crumpled in a tiny ball. I reached down and picked it up. As it unfolded in my hand, shivers ran down my spine. It was my bracelet. God had heard and answered my prayer!

Heavenly Father, You hear our cries – whether our need is great or small, You hear us. Thank You for Your love and Your provision. Thank You that You care about the small things. Amen.

What kind of load are you carrying? Is it something that seems insurmountable? Or is it something that seems so trivial you hate to bother to pray about it? Whatever your need is, take a minute and entrust it to your Heavenly Father through prayer. He already knows; He’s just waiting for you to stop trying to carry it alone.
