Abbas Demands Recognition of ‘Palestine’ in 2017

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas gave an address on Saturday night demanding that world governments recognize the “State of Palestine” in 2017. He added that “settlements on the land of the occupied State of Palestine are on their way out,” he said. “We attained a historic UN Security Council resolution…which said that any changes since 1967 to the demographic composition or land of the State of Palestine including east Jerusalem are unacceptable.”

Christian Community Expresses Support for Israel

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin hosted the annual Christmas reception for spiritual leaders of Israel’s Christian communities last week. Greek Patriarch Theophilos III gave the traditional address on behalf of the community, which was notable for lacking any criticism of Israel or specific reference to the Palestinian efforts to de-legitimize the Jewish State.

Two Israelis Victimized by Terrorist in Istanbul

Israelis were shocked over the weekend at reports that one Israeli citizen was killed and another wounded in the shooting attack at a New Years Eve party at the Reina nightclub in Istanbul early Sunday morning. The terrorist attacker, who was still at large Monday afternoon, killed at least 39 people and wounded many more.

Israel Has Record Year in 2016 for Air Travel

The effort to Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS) Israel received another defeat Sunday as the Israel Airports Authority released numbers for 2016, showing that it was another record-breaking year for traffic in and out of Ben-Gurion Airport. More than 17 million people came traveled through the airport on over 110,000 outgoing and incoming flights, while another 600,000 people used the airport for domestic travel within Israel.

The resolution cannot, in and of itself, serve as grounds for legal proceedings in the International Criminal Court (ICC) or other international tribunals. But clearly, it will be used by the Palestinian leadership as a political tool to buttress existing complaints.
