Changes in life are not so easy at times. One of those that may cause us to stumble or a least make us gasp is that time in life when those precious children of ours are no longer around making noise and causing messes – and how we suddenly realize how much we miss that!
THE EMPTY NEST SYNDROME…
Sometimes the empty nest occurs naturally. You have raised your children for 18, 19, 21 years and then all of a sudden they are done with high school or college and are off to face the world eagerly while all the while you are dying inside because you know what is out there. At this point all you can do is hold on to Father God and PRAY. Pray that He will keep them safe and sound in the Palm of HIS Hand.
Other times empty nests come due to a divorce and all of a sudden the once vibrant and noisy home you have gotten so used to – is silent. The empty nest has come to soon and you feel a loneliness inside that is overwhelming.
Whatever way your empty nest comes…naturally or forced – the key ingredient here is God. I remember crying out to Abba – “Why? Why have you allowed my children to be taken from me when they are my EVERYTHING?”
And in His still quiet voice I could hear Him say…”That’s why.” Sometimes when we are so busy raising our children – we can allow them to steal our hearts from God. They can become our all. The reason why we get up in the morning. The reason why we survive.
Then one day…just like that – they’re gone. And if we haven’t been focusing on the relationship that will never leave us or forsake us – we feel exactly that…left and forsaken.
If you are in this place today – sister – come back to the One who has always been there. The one who will not leave you EVER. Take this time to rejoice in Him and discover Him once again. Take time to remember His promise in Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV),
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
