US Navy Fired at by Iranian-backed Rebels in Yemen

The US Navy disclosed on Monday that missiles had been fired at one of its ships, the USS Mason, as it sailed off the coast of Yemen, in an area where a United Arab Emirates naval vessel was severely damaged by missile strikes last week. Although the attack on the Mason was unsuccessful, the missiles were fired from territory in Yemen controlled by Iranian-backed Houthi militias, stoking already white-hot tensions in the region between the Islamic Republic and its neighbors.

Russia and Turkey Drawing Closer Together

Russia and Turkey took a big step closer together on Monday when an agreement was announced to build a natural gas pipeline under the Black Sea, allowing Russian gas to supply the Turkish market as well as use Turkey as a conduit to Europe. The agreement was signed in Ankara by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who lavished praise on each other in a joint press conference.
