Tensions were mounting between the US and Russia over events in Syria Thursday as Russian and Assad regime aircraft pounded rebel-held neighborhoods of the northern city of Aleppo and a rising chorus of voices urged US President Barak Obama to act to put a stop to it. Meanwhile, Russia has deployed an advanced S-300 air defense system to Syria, apparently to deter US or other Western governments from launching any action against its forces there.
