So I Speak

Duck speak2 Corinthians 4:13 But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, “I believed in God, and so I speak.” <NLT>

The Lord has been showing me different ways that we speak….to ourselves, to others, about others. There are times when we spew words out like they are a flock of birds, having no thought about where they are going or where they are going to nest.

I have never been a big talker. I like to stand back and observe others….perhaps it’s the writer in me. However, as I have matured in my relationship with the Lord, I find that I need to speak more.  I’ve learned a lot about watching what comes out of my mouth.

I ask myself: What is He speaking to you? Are you speaking as Him? What are you speaking? Are you lifting someone up? Are you encouraging or tearing down? Are you speaking life? I want to. I don’t always get it right, but my heart is right. Look at this:

Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you will have the right answer for everyone. <NLT>

Sometimes, Miss Zora and I will be talking and something will stir a memory of a hymn and she will sing it! I love it! Another time, we were eating supper, dinner….whatever your choice of vernacular….and a worship team on TV began to sing “I Exalt Thee”. We stopped eating and joined them! It was awesome! Look at this:

Ephesians 5:15-19 So be careful how you live, not as fools but as those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. Then you will sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, making music to the Lord in your hearts.<NLT>

It’s important that we hear what He is saying to us and speak likewise to others. The Father never reminds us of wrong doings. He doesn’t point out our faults, our forgetfulness, our selfishness….you get the picture. The Father loves us……He loves me right where I’m at, and that’s how He wants us to love others.

Today, I encourage you to ask the Father if you are speaking life to those in your path. Ask Him to show you when you are just spewing words and to help you to let your conversation be gracious and effective. You hear His voice and you know His love….now is the time to express this wonderful love to others through your words.

Today, your Father is saying,” I love you. You are perfect and Mine. I think about you all the time and I love spending time with you. You are great and I’m so glad you are Mine.”

John 3:34 For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God’s Spirit is upon him without measure or limit.

Dawn's heart is to encourage the Body so that all would come to see the Christ-life as all-living, life-giving truth, that we would all walk in the Holy Spirit to such fullness that anyone we come in contact with comes in contact with the living God. (Ephesians 4:23-24) She has always liked writing and in March 2007, the Lord gave her 1 Peter 4:10-11 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. Dawn is very blessed to be married to her best friend, Ron, who continually nourishes her with the washing of the Word. They currently live in Oklahoma, and have two married sons, an adult daughter, six granddaughters and two grandsons.
