THE SOURCE OF THE ATTACK ON ACCOUNTABILITY, Written By David Maddox
Satan’s original deception in the garden was that God did not mean what He said – that there would be no accountability if Eve disobeyed God and ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But there was accountability and all of us continue to pay the cost of that accountability – the consequences of the curse.

The attack on accountability has successfully gone forward in the education realm and in the theological realm such that culture has been changed to embrace the absence of accountability – the absence of any firm value or moral standards – the absence of fear of the Lord for He is merely a God of grace and love – the absence of discipline etc. King Jesus is seen as the humble carpenter from Nazareth who would not hurt a flea. He died for us so that we can do whatever pleases us – whatever makes us happy. As a result, our day is best described by the last verse in the book of Judges – “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).

But the reality has not changed. There is accountability to a Holy God who is our King (our Lord) and who will be our Judge. Satan has not changed – and unfortunately neither have men and women. We don’t want to bow our knee to any superior being and until we change we will find God to be our enemy and not our friend. Jesus said it this way – “Whoever is not with me is against me” (Matthew 12:30) and “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21). In the Old Testament we see the truth clearly in the warning given to an earthly king. “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you” (2 Chronicles 15:2).

About David Maddox – After a legal career in both Texas and Arizona that spanned over 40 years as a civil litigator, God called David to leave his law practice and work full time as Discipleship Director for Time to Revive.  That call is really the fruit of decades of prayer for revival and teaching God’s Word, writing discipleship materials and seeking to make disciples.  David married Janet Whitehead in 1976 and they minister together from their Phoenix home.  God has blessed them with four children and thus far seven grandchildren.
