The American Dream

united-states-of-america-364545_640What is your American dream? A house with a white picket fence, a good education, job and family used to be the normal dream for most of us. Have our priorities changed since 2001? Perhaps our new dream is of peace, security and a government we can trust. If we keep up with the world news today, the outlook for the future looks mighty dim. The President warns of global warming when the majority of us are more concerned about Isis and other terrorist groups who are still chanting, “Death to America.”
The attack on America on 9-11 seemed to unite us for a time, but it didn’t last once the war in Iraq dragged on and so many more lives were lost. In the last decade we have become so concerned about political correctness, we seemed to have forgotten about more important issues. Congress has lost the ability to balance a budget, protect our constitutional rights, or agree on anything really. The economy is still suffering in spite of bail-outs and we’re losing more and more companies to Mexico and other countries. Welfare and medicaid is a way of life for more than anyone ever imagined.
What happened to our desire to succeed simply by working hard and being honest? Our schools no longer meet the highest standards of education in many areas. Students are not even required to make passing grades in order to be promoted from one grade level to the next. Cursive writing is no longer taught and children are encouraged to spell the words the way they sound…. which is what most of them continue to do. I worked for years where a high school diploma or at least a GED was required and people there could barely write legibly….much less spell.
God has been removed from schools and His commandments from government buildings. Gays and atheists demand equality and Christians are being jailed for their beliefs. It is hard to recognize America anymore….and hard to be optimistic about a future filled with more of the same. Churches and pastors preach about the signs and we’re convinced the end times are upon us….or already here.
How can our children look forward to a better life if we are telling them that life will end soon anyway? I don’t believe this is what Jesus wants our young people to hear. It is our job as adults to work harder to insure the future remains bright and every one has a chance to reach their dreams….no matter what they are. The people have been looking for a sign of end times even before the Bible was written. Jesus often was asked to show them a sign. His reply was: “An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas.”
Jonas and Jonah are one and the same. The only sign I saw when reading the book of Jonah was the fact that once Jonah agreed with God to go and preach to the people of Nineveh they decided to believe his words and turned from their sins…As a result God did not destroy the city. If we want to save our country and insure a future for our kids and grand kids we must also repent from our sins and turn the people back to God and His ways. Faith is the only thing that has kept our country strong and that same faith is the only thing that will save it.
We cannot afford to give up no matter how dim the future looks. There is a light at the end of the tunnel….and it is Jesus! I keep thinking about all the tragedies America has been through…The World Wars, The Dust Bowl, The Great Depression…. 9-11….surely the people then thought the end was near too, but they prevailed because they had faith and God heard their prayers and allowed life to continue. There will come a time when He will return, but nobody knows…not even Jesus….when that time will be. He says it will be at a time we think not, so we are to be prepared.
Are you prepared for the coming of Christ, and all that the end times entail? If not, we must be about our Father’s business and make sure that we, our families and loved ones are ready by sharing the Good News of Jesus and His salvation. Being prepared has nothing to do with storing up food and water or building shelters…. If we listen and turn from our wicked ways, He will hear and save our land….otherwise the American dream will be a thing of the past. The American people are not stupid as some would have us believe and neither can we be gullible.
We all know that God did not intend for men to marry men and women to marry women. We must stop allowing ourselves to be pulled into the propaganda and false teachings so many are trying to get us to accept as normal. The meaning of normal and decent hasn’t changed and neither must our standards. God is still in charge and we must see that He remains so…. and that we honor Him in all our ways. Pray for our country’s unbelief and put Jesus back into our schools, the Ten Commandments back into our government so that our dreams of a better life for the next generations can become a reality and America will continue to be blessed.

My name is Betty Fritz. I was born and raised in Texas but have resided in Elkhart, Indiana for the last 25 years. My husband is a Hoosier so that’s how we wound up here. We have two daughters and a son plus 6 grand kids…..3 boys and 3 girls. I retired last year after working for 24 years at Elkhart Child Development Center. I’ve been writing since a teenager and have taken several writing courses. I enjoy writing short stories. I wrote a book of poems, RHYMES OF THE TIMES, which was published a few years ago. I have written countless songs, a few for which demo recordings have been made. Recently I’ve been writing blogs..most of them about my faith and things the Lord has taught me in my Christian life over the last 51 years. My inspiration comes from my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my desire to see that my grandchildren grow up in a Christian nation. My goal is to bring glory to Him and help others to see that there is POWER in the name of JESUS!
