Remember the Tear

todayDo you spend a lot of time questioning the whys of this life? I do. My friend Brenda told me, “You must think a lot.” Sometimes I probably do spend more time thinking than doing…this could be good or bad. Sometimes we (or I anyway) tend to think a thing to death. Sometimes, the answers are not to be found and facts must simply be taken for just that, facts….no ifs, ands, buts or maybes.
This acceptance of facts without some kind of unquestionable proof is called faith. The Bible , in Hebrews 11:1 describes faith as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. The question I asked most often is: Why are so many people today so opposed to or have so little faith in God? Perhaps it’s because we have all been lied to and disappointed so many times by those we trusted that faith does not come as easy as it once did. The people of the Old Testament were surrounded by sin just as we are today. Only the birth of Christ and the truth of His Gospel gave mankind a substance of hope and evidence of a better life to come.
Being born in 1949 and having lived through about six and a half decades, it is my observation that faith in God and His promises came much easier before the Vietnam War period. It started to deminish when our country became overrun with the ever-increasing drug problems. “Make love, not war” became the slogan of many, followed by: “If it feels good, do it.” Soon the “powers that be” began urging us to look out for number one and take care of what we need before considering the wants and needs of those around us. If “they” could have known the results of this philosophy I wonder if their views would have been the same.
If the birth of Christ brought a rebirth of faith to the earlier generations what, other than His second coming, can possibly cause the same rebirth today? Perhaps the rememberence of His resurrection is what our country and the world needs right now….or maybe if we remember the tear….the rip in the curtain that occurred the moment Christ died on the cross when the sins of this world caused him to give up the ghost. The thunder sounded and the earth shook as the veil was rendered in two and the separation between God and man was no longer there.
No longer was there a need for a sacrifice of animals. The blood of Jesus had covered all sin for once and for all….if only we accept this as fact and don’t try to analyze it or question the reality of it. There are no ifs, ands, buts or maybes….Christ died to bring salvation to a sin-filled world. Ask any true, born-again Christian about this fact and they should be able to tell you exactly how it changed them and gave their life new hope and meaning the instant they chose to believe it. Faith the size of a mustard seed can move any mountain you are trying to climb. It will become a molehill the moment you ask Jesus to help you overcome it.
Only with His help will we be able to move the mountains of sin surrounding our world today. If we, His people call on His name and believe it can be done, He will be quick to answer and save our land. Remember the tear and know there is no obstacle between God and us. Jesus stands faithfully as our direct line to God… He takes our heartfelt prayers directly to God’s ears and He answers them according to His will. Pray for our country that the people’s eyes will be opened and hearts be changed by the power in the name of Jesus!
