In Isaiah 11:6 we read, among other things, “and a little child shall lead them”. The UNM Students for Life are NOT little children, but they sure lead on Monday. The Students for Life held a press conference with a multitude of pro-life ministries and Congressman Steve Pearce across the street from Planned Parenthood in Albuquerque.
The event came on the heels of Friday’s votes in Congress passing both HR 3134 to defund Planned Parenthood and HR 3504, the Born Alive Abortion Survivor Protection Act. The House Resolutions come after a summer of revealing videos of Planned Parenthood bargaining to sell the organs of aborted babies. The bills now head to the Senate where there will be a tough fight to garner enough votes. If it passes both houses they are guaranteed a veto from President Obama. Planned Parenthood receives over a half BILLION dollars a year from America’s taxpayers.
Representatives who spoke: Sade Patterson, UNM Students For Life; Elisa Martinez, New Mexico Alliance For Life; Dauneen Dulce, Right To Life New Mexico; Jude Arguellas, Sidewalk Advocates for Life, Grant Bressett, a pro-life apologist and Jonathan Gardener of the New Mexico Center For Family Policy. The emcee for the event was Laura Rosecrans from Surrendered Hearts NM, a post-abortion recovery ministry. This was a strong, united message for the unborn in New Mexico seeing these ministries committed to defunding Planned Parenthood.
Congressman Pearce followed the ministry representatives and talked about his support of both House Resolutions. The Third Congressional District Representative encouraged his New Mexico colleagues, Senator Tom Udall and Senator Martin Heinrich, to vote in favor of the bills banning the ongoing funding of Planned Parenthood.
The Congressman pointed out that both Senators pocket considerable campaign donations from Planned Parenthood, but he encouraged New Mexicans to let their voices be heard. Laura Rosecrans summed his thoughts up as she closed out the Press Conference/Rally by reminding attendees that their faithfulness and actions are all they can control….God is responsible for the outcome.
Comparisons were drawn between how Planned Parenthood is doing business and how convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell practiced in Philadelphia. Several speakers, including Congressman Pearce commented on the 2013 balance sheet of Planned Parenthood which showed a profit of over $127 million. And, once again, the urban legend that Planned Parenthood provides services other than abortion was challenged. The non-profit organization does not own one mammogram machine in any of its clinics nationwide.
Representative Pearce showed comparative pictures of New Mexico if funding was diverted from a handful of Planned Parenthood clinics to a much larger number of clinics around the State that currently serve the health needs of women. It was a striking contrast from the very few clinics the abortion giant operates in metropolitan areas to the services that could be boosted all across the state.
The gathering highlighted a morning that mixed the young ministries with the mature. Those who have fought the culture of death in America for decades and those just starting. It was a perfect mix.
