DAY THREE: RESTORATION: GOD’S KEY TO JOY IN YOUR LIFE-Stephen’s Gate: Awakening Your Spirit, Reviving Your Destiny

“God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing. 2 You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. 3 True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. 4 Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure. 5 You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of GOD for the rest of my life.” (Psalms 23:1-6, The Message)

As we continue on this path to restoration I want to remind you again that these are just steps for you to take. It’s important that you have people around you to walk through this process with you. As I’ve mentioned, you will experience days when this process is easy and day’s when it’s difficult and you don’t feel like going through it. The key is you have to keep going, you must refuse to give up.

The passage above is an example of the process of restoration. You must have a full surrender where you say, “God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.” Restoration requires you to get to a point where everything is His and nothing is yours. It’s then that God can start to restore your soul. I love verse 3: “True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction.” Once you give it all to Him in surrender He will bring you through a time of catching your breath. You will enter a season of rest, a season of catching your breath and being set in the right direction. Even during this process, when you have bad day, when you feel discouraged, when you’re going through Death Valley, you won’t be afraid because the Restorer of all things is walking by your side.

You will know when you’ve fully surrendered everything to God, it’s at that point that He will serve a six-course dinner right in front of your enemies and you’ll sit there resting and in comfort. He will take your drooping head that’s drooping because you feel like you’ve failed and there’s nothing that can be done to fix it, He will revive your drooping head.

We have a mindset that the restoration process requires us to do a lot of work. Don’t get me wrong, it requires some, however, restoration requires very little work and a whole lot of handing things over to God and simply resting. God can’t do what He wants when we are always trying to help Him. It’s when we surrender and get to a point when we realize that nothing we do makes any difference, it’s then that God can really do a quick work. We have to remove ourselves from the equation and simply say, “Here I am, do what you want, I lay it all at your feet. I will do whatever you want and I will go wherever you tell me to go, I simply want Your will.”

God wants you to catch your breath so that He can send you in the right direction. Just like someone running in a race, he has to stop running before he can catch his breath. It’s no different with you. You have to stop running long enough to catch your breath. You may be running doing great things but you’re really not getting anywhere. You may be running from God, wherever you find yourself this is a crucial step in the restoration process. Slow down, stop, and rest. Learn to rest, even in the presence of enemies.
