“Once more the Philistines came up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; 23 so David inquired of the Lord, and he answered, “Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the balsam trees. 24 As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” 25 So David did as the Lord commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.” (2 Samuel 5:22-25, NIV)

Some of the best advice my wife and I have had is to be patient, and move quickly. Now, that’s seems like a contradictory statement but let me explain. What this person told us was to be patient in listening for God’s direction but once God gives instruction, move quickly. The reason is that when we don’t move quickly, the enemy can come in and persuade you differently. Moving quickly may not always mean implementing something immediately but it may mean begin planning immediately in accordance with the direction God has given you.

One of the ways God defeats the enemies in your life is to give you instruction, and then you move quickly into action. Again, as with the rest of these teachings, God gives instruction, we act and do our part but ultimately God does the work. David inquired of the Lord, God gave him specific instructions and part of those were, “As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” Did you catch that? David was instructed to move quickly when heard the sound because that meant the Lord had already gone before him and struck down the enemy. The reason why we need to move quickly when God gives instruction is because He has already gone before us and cleared the enemies out of the path so that we can be fruitful and successful.

When you’re in the middle of a battle, there will come a time when God will give you instructions and expect you to move quickly on them. He will go before you and clear the enemies from your path.
