An Iranian Admiral joined the chorus of fiery speeches about the US this week, declaring during a speech to members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard and Basij security forces that “The Americans have realized today that if they embark on war they will sustain defeat, given the Islamic Revolution’s capabilities.” The remarks came against a backdrop of a report by a UN panel of experts that recently reported their belief that Iran’s satellite and space programs are likely being used as a cover for advances in its efforts to deploy long-range ballistic missiles suitable for the delivery of nuclear weapons. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, denounced as “stupid and idiotic” demands by the UN that his country cease the pursuit of such missiles in remarks to the press last summer.
