When Tragedy Strikes

KalinSaturday morning, my husband and I were at the gym and I noticed I had missed a call from my sister.  I sent her a quick text asking if everything was ok.  Her reply: “no”.  I called her immediately and was given some of the more bizarre information I had ever heard. Her dear friend and co-worker Kalina, had been struck by lighting during a motorcycle ride and was fighting for her life.

Kalina is a vibrant woman, full of life and passion.  She is 40 years old and the mother of 3 children.  I had met her multiple times; at my sister’s wedding (where she served as a bride’s maid) and at her two baby showers.  She is kind and makes a killer enchilada.

To hear the news that this strong-willed, fighting spirit woman had been struck by lightning was almost unfathomable.  It seemed to the story line from an unrealistic movie.  But yet, it was reality.

Over the last 4 days, hundreds of people have been praying for Kalina.  Countless times I have asked the Lord for a miracle– and not just one of her survival, but of full restoration, accompanied by the radical salvation stories that come along with a Bible days type miracle.

This freak occurrence, rattled me thoroughly. It is a reminder once again about the fact that we aren’t promised tomorrow.  We aren’t even promised this afternoon.  At the risk of sounding too corny, is it not wisdom for all or us to live as if this were our last day?  Let us forgive those who have offended us before we no longer can.  We should make love a priority and not wait for a better time to express or act upon it.  We should share the hope of Christ, and His gospel message, in the way we live and the words we speak.  If you knew lightning were about to strike, how would you change your life?

Please pray for Kalina.  She has a long road of recovery ahead of her.  There are enough mixed reports about her condition that I don’t want to share inaccurate information.  The point is, she still needs a miracle touch from the Lord to be fully restored.  If you would like to help her family financially, a Go Fund Me site has been estableshed: Help Kalina Here

Go forward today in prayer and in hopeful expectation about what this day will bring.  But please, don’t take it for granted.
