IMG_2739Proverbs 31:29 “Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all.”

I had the honor of introducing my mom, Anna, to Jesus on 11 July 2004. She was 64 years old when she began her romance with her Beloved Bridegroom.

On Mother’s Day, a lot of Christians think of Proverbs 31:10-31. It describes a woman, a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend and her virtues. She is selfless. She is always looking out for the needs of others and providing for those needs.

As I read through the verses and thought of Mom, verse 29 stood out to me.

Mom excelled them all. She was a wonderful example of a virtuous woman. She taught me kindness and how to cook, sew, crochet, knit and take care of others and a household. She was funny and stubborn, gentle and strong. She was a great mom and role model.

Mom started her dance with her Jesus on 26 February 2013. She was 73 years young.

Two years prior to this she wrote each of us four kids and Dad letters to read after she was gone. Here is mine:

My Sweet Little Girl,

I carried you so differently from your brother that I knew you were a girl. How happy I was when you were finally born. Now I had a boy and a girl–one handsome the other beautiful!

It must have been hard growing up with 3 brothers, but I don’t remember you complaining.

We didn’t have a lot of “things” when you were growing up, but I hope you felt loved.

You have been faced with many obstacles, but met them face on, turned your life around. You are a wonderful mother and a good wife to Ron. He’s a good man. I can see how much he loves you.

Since you accepted Jesus you are a much better person. Thank you for showing me that I needed Him in my life. I may not have been verbal about Him, but He’s been in my heart and I talked to Him as a friend.

Love your family and please try to accept your dad as he is and love him. Your brothers need your love and your prayers.

I am sorry to be leaving all of you, but am ready for what lies ahead.

My love to All of You

God Bless You

Mom

Her letter speaks volumes–the heart of Christ–to love. That agape love, which is unconditional love–God’s love.

Mom didn’t focus on the stuff we did wrong, but tried to encourage us to keep moving forward and leave the old behind, to forgive, forget and move on.

As you celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday, I want to encourage you to forgive, forget, and allow the Lord Jesus to love others through you……unconditionally.

I leave you with the scripture from Mom’s grave marker:

1 Corinthians 16:24 My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.
