For God and Country by Betty Fritz
Just reading the headlines today can make one wonder what is happening to the world. Our military members are being court-martialed Marine Convicted at Court-Martial Hearing for Displaying Bible Verse and threatened for being open about their faith in God. Schools are punishing children for speaking out about their faith, mentioning Jesus Christ and for displaying our flag. How long will it be before they tell us we can no longer worship at the church of our choice? Nine members of the Supreme Court now have the task of deciding the laws we should follow concerning same-sex marriage.
This is the same world we grew up in where being a Christian and standing up for what’s right was celebrated. The thought of not being able to pray where or when we wanted was as foreign to us then as all the immigrants descending on our borders today. It was in the early 60’s that atheists first began demanding that prayers be removed from our schools. It took a while but the idea actually caught on in some areas. It is now considered “politically incorrect” to have school children salute and recite the pledge to our flag… and they want the words “under God” removed from it.
Recently they have questioned the American tradition of having someone sing our national anthem at the beginning of sporting events. What ever happened to Mom, apple pie and the flag being the symbols of our way of life…not to mention the Bible being the basis of all we believe and the right to worship undeniable? Can we call all this “progress”?
It seems to me that a snake has entered our garden once again and is telling many of our leaders that God is not telling us the whole truth. Our elected officials have decided that the world as we knew it was not the best it could be. They preach that their “new world order” is all inclusive and everyone and their rights are to be protected….except for those who prefer the “old world” laws and base their beliefs on a higher power known as Jesus Christ. With all the talk and “signs” of end times, Satan has stepped up his game and is influencing those in charge of our laws. Unless we are willing to see all the things we cherish including our freedom to worship taken away, we too must step up and fight back.
There are no laws in place as yet that say we cannot practice our beliefs as Christians. Are we going to wait until such laws are passed before we stand up and speak up to defend these freedoms? Wouldn’t a better plan be to step up before it happens in order to insure that these freedoms stay in place? Our military has every right to speak out about their faith as do our school children. Let’s do all we can to keep these rights in place and turn the tables on those who try to deny them.
The Lord has shown me recently that our hope is in the young people. As parents and grandparents we must be raising our children up according to God’s plan and passing on to them the truths and values our fathers and forefathers held dear… enough to include them in our constitution. Proverbs 22:6 tells us to “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old he will not depart from it.” We must study our Bible and take it’s teachings literally, use discernment when choosing our leaders and raise a generation of believers for God and our country!
About Betty Fritz:
My name is Betty Fritz. I was born and raised in Texas but have resided in Elkhart, Indiana for the last 25 years. My husband is a Hoosier so that’s how we wound up here. We have two daughters and a son plus 6 grand kids…..3 boys and 3 girls.
I retired last year after working for 24 years at Elkhart Child Development Center. I’ve been writing since a teenager and have taken several writing courses. I enjoy writing short stories. I wrote a book of poems, RHYMES OF THE TIMES, which was published a few years ago. I have written countless songs, a few for which demo recordings have been made. Recently I’ve been writing blogs..most of them about my faith and things the Lord has taught me in my Christian life over the last 51 years. My inspiration comes from my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my desire to see that my grand children grow up in a Christian nation. My goal is to bring glory to Him and help others to see that there is POWER in the name of JESUS!
