Why bother with a Recovery Ministry?

Let me introduce myself. My name is Mark and I am a recovered addict and alcoholic.

Wait what? You said you were recovered. Yes, recovered.

You see, for years, I went to places like Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and the like. The problem I had was that whenever we introduced ourselves, it would be something like, “My name is Mark and I’m an alcohlic and addict”.

There was a problem with this introduction for me. Don’t get me wrong, there is a place for AA and NA and the like. Many people have gone through these programs and have been successful in staying sober. The problem I found personally and with speaking with others who were like me is that, THERE SEEMED TO BE NO HOPE OF EVER BEING RECOVERED.

What does that mean? Well, whenever you identify yourself as something, you will always relate to being that. In these programs they justify identifying yourself as such, to remind you that you have an addiction and can never go back. This can cause a lot of problems with depression, anger, anxiety, etc. Why? Because there is no hope.

I had been in and out of these rooms, for over 12 years. I stayed sober and clean but never found resolve. Basically, what happened in my case, is I found other addictions to cope. I had an empty void I was looking to fill.

It was not until I rededicated my life back to Jesus did that void get filled. He enabled me to stay sober and stay away from the other things that I became addicted to. I found Hope.

I have buried many people over the years due to addiciton. There have been many who also have dealt with other problems due to addicitons. Jesus continues to lead me to help people in this situations, to help lead them to Him and to a better life.

The vision given to me, is to help others to recover, train them with job/life skills, if needed, and definitely get them connected with Our Lord and Savior and help them grow in their relationship.

This blog will be used to help get some info out to you and others to help people with addicitons and prayerfully get them help. It will also be used to let you know of needs we may have to continue in our ministry to reach those in need of help.

By the way, this is a problem that is rampant in the church as well. Many of these people will try to hide their addictions because they feel like they will be judged. Please let them know there is help.

Until next time;

Ezekiel 37:1-6 (NKJV):

The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. 2 Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. 3 And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

So I answered, “O Lord God, You know.”

4 Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. 6 I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.”’”
