Jews are celebrating the eight-day festival of Hanukkah with traditions that
commemorate ancient miracles and symbolize triumph over oppression. Hanukkah,
also known as the Festival of Lights, commemorates the rededication of the
Temple by the Maccabees after their victory over the Syrians.
