Iranians Commemorate U.S. Embassy Takeover

Large crowds of Iranians took to the streets Tuesday to mark the 35th anniversary of the storming of the US Embassy in Teheran during the 1979 Islamic Revolution, an event which led to a hostage crisis which lasted 444 days and was instrumental in the defeat of Jimmy Carter by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 presidential election. Crowds numbers in the thousands gathered in Teheran to burn US flags, chant “Death to America” and declare their unqualified hatred towards the US, UK and Israel to reporters. “I am here to mark the oppression, cruelty and injustice of America,” one young university student said, dismissing ongoing nuclear talks between his government and world powers as largely irrelevant.
