High Alert in Jerusalem after Assassination Attempt

Security forces in Jerusalem and throughout Israel were on high alert Thursday following an apparent attempt to assassinate Rabbi Yehuda Glick, spokesman for the Joint Committee of Temple Organizations. The Temple Mount in the Old City was closed to both Jews and Arabs and extra police officers deployed throughout the city. Glick was reportedly shot three times in the chest by a gunmen on a motorcycle as he left the Menachem Begin Heritage Center near the Jaffa Gate to the Old City at 10:33 PM. He had been speaking at an event entitled “Israel Returns to the Temple Mount” alongside MKs Eliyahu Ben-Dahan, Moshe Feiglin and Miri Regev. At press time, Glick was in stable but serious condition at Sharre Zedek hospital. Thursday morning, a suspect in the attack was killed by police when he resisted their attempt to arrest him in the Abu Tor neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem. Read More
