Wildfire Burns North Of Socorro, New Mexico

There’s a fire burning north of Socorro along I-25 near Sevilleta.

The U.S. Forest Service reports the size of the fire, named the Black Butte fire, to be approximately 500 acres, but does not appear to be threatening any structures.

There is currently a combination of state and federal crews fighting the fire, which started south of Highway 60 east of Bernardo.

Heavy brush in the area is creating thick smoke, causing the fire to be seen from miles away.
