Esther 4:13-14 NLT

13 Mordecai sent this reply to Esther: “Don’t think for a moment that because you’re in the palace you will escape when all other Jews are killed. 14 If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”

Recently, I helped officiate at Payson’s Baccalaureate ceremony for all this year’s graduating seniors. Have you ever had a moment when you don’t know exactly why your there, but you still know, you feel you’re in just the right place? I did.

CS Lewis once said on the holy spirit:

“It is quite right that you should feel that “something terrific” has happened to you (It has) and be “all glowy.” Accept these sensations with thankfulness as birthday cards from God, but remember that they are only greetings, not the real gift. I mean, it is not the sensations that are the real thing. The real thing is the gift of the Holy Spirit which can’t usually be—perhaps not ever—experienced as a sensation or emotion. The sensations are merely the response of your nervous system. Don’t depend on them. Otherwise when they go and you are once more emotionally flat (as you certainly will be quite soon), you might think that the real thing had gone too. But it won’t. It will be there when you can’t feel it. May even be most operative when you can feel it least.”

-CS Lewis

What if all we ever needed were right in front of us?

What if what our hearts yearned for was right out in the front lawn-

at Wal-Mart

or dusting in our garage?

We need to learn to see with spiritual eyes-

or not at all.

Words say too much sometimes-

passion and dogma and tracts-

church services and mon-fri jobs…

We cry out- is this all?

is this it?

The people we need to help are right there.

The faraway places are just down the street.

The tools sit on our desks already

It’s our towns that need help where they’re at.

It’s our churches that need us.

It’s our wives that need love-

our hearts that need to follow God

into the great unknown outside our front doors.

That’s where we’ll find God after all-

not in dusty theology books

or crowded choirs-

but in the back pews

– through the eyes of God

there are no more deserts of blase existence

-We are here, now, exactly for a time such as this.

Col 2:6-10 MESSAGE

From the Shadows to the Substance

6-7 My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over into thanksgiving.

8-10 Watch out for people who try to dazzle you with big words and intellectual double-talk. They want to drag you off into endless arguments that never amount to anything. They spread their ideas through the empty traditions of human beings and the empty superstitions of spirit beings. But that’s not the way of Christ. Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything.

Col 2:16-17

16-17 So don’t put up with anyone pressuring you in details of diet, worship services, or holy days. All those things are mere shadows cast before what was to come; the substance is Christ.

Dont worry about everything else. Like at the Baccalaureate ceremony trust God has you where you are for a reason. Even if its scary and even (perhaps especially) if you cant ‘feel’ it.

On my drive to work I often listen to classic rock. I dont know what it is, but recently, I have been loving The Beatles. Listen:

“Let It Be”

And when the broken hearted people

Living in the world agree

There will be an answer, let it be

For though they may be parted

There is still a chance that they will see

There will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be

Let it be, let it be

Yeah there will be an answer, let it be

Let it be, let it be

Let it be, let it be

Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

Part of the ANSWER is you.

Bringing the Kingdom of Heaven here

You are here, like Esther, for exactly right here, right now.

You may not ever know the official reason…

(But even that’s ok)
