(New York, NY) — The New York Police Department is ending its controversial Muslim surveillance program. The initiative that started in 2003 sent plainclothes officers into Muslim neighborhoods to gather information on potential terrorists plots. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday released a statement calling the move a quote, “critical step forward in easing tensions between the police and the communities they serve, so that our cops and our citizens can help one another go after the real bad guys.”
