Lawless Judge Finds the Right of Suicide in NM State Constitution

Once again a New Mexico judge fails to understand her role as prescribed by the New Mexico state constitution. Second Judicial District Judge Nan Nash ruled that if a terminally ill patient is competent, that patient can commit suicide with the help of a doctor.

Judge Nash unlawfully declared dying as a fundamental right found in our state’s constitution, such a right ensures the liberty, safety and happiness of terminally ill patients. This, of course, is a godless progressive interpretation of the law.

Under state law, assisting with suicide is a fourth-degree felony. The plaintiffs don’t consider physicians aiding in dying a form of suicide. Redefining terms is a common way of avoiding the truth and marginalizing morality.

A news release provided by the ACLU of New Mexico on Monday said the New Mexico Psychological Association supported the suit and concluded, “the practice of good professional psychology in New Mexico requires that the law … recognize that aid in dying is not a form of suicide.”

Psychologists are now dictating the law and morality, I guess.

Judges, like Judge Nan Nash, hold to a “living” view of state and federal constitutions. Under this view, the constitution is subjective to the times we live in. Judges are able to find “rights” that are in keeping with their worldview instead of the letter of the law.

Thus a judge is able to find a right to death within a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

From a biblical point of view, the Lord gives life. While death is unpleasant and even unnatural, the Lord holds the keys to death and hell. Suicide has always been wrong and immoral.

As we move away from God and His truths, these things become more difficult to grasp. But notice that many who believe in the right of abortion, the killing of the young, also believe in the right to kill the terminally ill. This tends to lead to the right of one person perceived to be of more value over the rights of those of lesser value. History has brought us here before.

It is a slippery slope on which we find ourselves. Regardless of the issues, when we begin to move away from the self evident truths and rights granted by our Creator and articulated in our Constitution by reinterpretation, we loose those rights altogether.
